Proposed Solutions for Workers’ Compensation Reform

We’re excited to share the first in a series of seven documents developed by people with lived experience of Australia’s workers’ compensation systems.

These insights reflect real-world experiences and offer concrete ideas for reform, grounded in the everyday realities of injured workers across Australia.

Through extensive consultation with the Workers’ Voice Lived Experience Advisory Group, seven key areas for improvement were identified:

  1. Improving the collection and use of medical information – READ HERE
  2. Build trust by being fair, transparent and supportive of workers
  3. Help injured workers navigate a complex system
  4. Reduce financial burdens on workers and their families
  5. Develop a mental health claims model of care
  6. Provide supportive and alternative pathways for scheme exit
  7. Strengthen regulation of insurers, employers and service providers

Each section outlines a real-world problem faced by injured workers and offers practical, experience-based solutions to make the system fairer and more effective.

Keep an eye on these updates – we will inform you as each document is released!

Now we want to hear from you!

Workers’ Voice researchers are calling on workers with experience in the workers’ compensation system to take part in a short, confidential survey.

You’ll be asked to rate solutions suggested by other injured workers, helping us understand which changes are the most important and have the most widespread support.

Your input will directly shape recommendations for future reform.

The survey is open until Friday 14th November 2025.
